    Between 1845 and 1894, parochial boards administered the Poor Law (Scotland) Act and appointed Inspectors of Poor, such as Robert Masterton in Dunbar, to administer relief.

    The Great Exhibition of 1851 in the Crystal Palace, London, was a celebration of the British Empire. William Masterton visited it and tried to pass off a stolen ?50 note.

    Helen Masterton was the mother of John Buchan, 1st Baron Tweedsmuir, tha famous novelist and politician who served as Governor General of Canada.
