    From 1620's till American Independence, 'transportation' was used in lieu of imprisonment or execution for many convicts, including Christian Masterton of Edinburgh, sent to the American colonies as a whore.

  • 25 Jan 1759—21 Jul 1796: Robert Burns and Allan Masterton
    Allan Masterton, writing master at Edinburgh High School, became a great friend of Robert Burns and composed music for 'Willie Brew'd a Peck o' Maut'.
1815 
  • 18 Jun 1815—18 Jun 1815: The Battle of Waterloo
    Thomas Masterton, bombardier in the Royal Artillery, fought at Waterloo and survived to earn the two extra years of pension credits awarded to Waterloo veterans.
